Women in Super Work Attachment - Day 2

Day 2 of the Women in Super (WIS) Work Attachment in Port Vila marked a transition from discussion to action, as representatives from pension and provident funds across the Pacific worked together to translate ideas into practical next steps.

The day opened with reflections on key themes from Day 1, including the challenges women face in accessing retirement savings, particularly in the informal economy. Participants were reminded that the responsibility now sits with the network to turn these insights into tangible solutions that improve financial security for women across the region.

A keynote presentation from Jo Kowalczyk, CEO of Women in Super Australia, explored global perspectives on retirement equity and highlighted the importance of designing superannuation systems that work for women, particularly those with interrupted careers or working in informal sectors.

The remainder of the day focused on practical workshops and collaborative sessions, where participants revisited the Women in Super network manual and examined how it can better support funds in implementing the network’s key resolutions. Participants shared experiences on how the manual has been used within their organisations, identified gaps, and discussed opportunities to strengthen it as a practical resource for the region.

Working groups explored questions such as when the manual is used, which sections are most useful, and what barriers may exist to using it more effectively. These discussions are expected to inform future updates to the manual, ensuring it remains a living resource that evolves alongside the work of the network.

By the end of the day, the Women in Super network had moved beyond presentations and into meaningful collaboration, reinforcing the shared commitment among Pacific funds to strengthen financial inclusion and improve retirement outcomes for women.
